What is Functional training and how does Fitillion use it?

What is Functional Fitness?

Functional training involves exercises that train the body for daily activities. For example, if you’re a motor mechanic, your functional training will likely include arm, core, and leg strength exercises to lift heavy objects more easily, keep your arms overhead for extended periods, or use heavy-duty equipment more effectively.

This type of training also has roots in rehabilitation exercise, which ultimately improves the overall quality of life for individuals who’ve suffered injuries.

How functional training works

Human movement is based on complete movement patterns that aren’t isolated joint muscle actions.

We tend to move in seven broad movement patterns, including:

  1. Squat
  2. Lunge
  3. Hinge
  4. Rotation
  5. Pull
  6. Push
  7. Locomotion

Functional training challenges these movement patterns, strengthening the body for daily life. Not only are compound movements effective at producing gains in lean mass, but they are also highly energy intensive.

And because you burn more calories per workout, it’s exceptionally time effective, which is perfect if you want to achieve strength and cardio fitness on a tight schedule.

How Fitillion maximises functional training

Our personalised workouts are designed to challenge both strength and cardio fitness in the same workout, ultimately providing a holistic approach to your overall functional capacity. We have a range of full-body build workouts encouraging slower movements to maximise time under tension.

The main goal of Fitillion workouts is to empower your body to do more in the gym and in daily life.
